Low emission zone - support and funding

Update on funding awarded

This is a to date presented to Transport and Environment Committee in January 2022.

Households and businesses

  • Transport Scotland has provided over £1.5 million in LEZ support funds to promote shifting from one type of transport to greener transport and to reduce emissions.
  • This funding was given to over 450 micro-businesses and low-income households located within 20 kilometres of the scheme.  

Buses, coaches and taxis

  •  is committed to achieving 100% of its vehicles complying with the LEZ emission standards in 2022. They have received significant support from the
  • In 2021 / 22 Transport Scotland provided over £2.7 million to retrofit buses and coaches that operate in Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏÍø, through phase four of BEAR funds.
  • All licensed taxis and private hire cars operating in Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏÍø are anticipated to comply with the LEZ emission standards ahead of enforcement.

Public transport provision

By early 2020, Transport Scotland provided £3.7 million across the  region to support Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏÍø and other Councils to develop sustainable transport projects and prepare for LEZs. This included

  • developing a mobility hub at Brunton Hall, including eletric vehicles chargers
  • park and rides
  • bus shelters
  • bus prioritisation measures
  • bus lane enforcement cameras.
